Apple has become a prominent figure in the truly wireless earphones category in recent times. It seems unlikely that a smartphone brand is a major player in the hearables industry but the company’s AirPods are one of the most popular wireless earbuds out there. This has led to many people adoring the product but with a few critics ever so often as well. However, none went as far as a barista that denied serving coffee to a customer just because he wore Apple’s AirPods.

According to the customer himself, he was “at the coffee shop counter, and the cashier wouldn’t take my order until I took off my AirPod! And it was only in one ear!” In other words, the barista denied service due to just one AirPod piece being worn. Reportedly, when the customer retaliated the response was based more on the socio-moral lines.

It is generally assumed to be bad manners or being rude when someone is in a conversation with another person while wearing either headphones or earphones. Meaning, people take it as an unwelcoming sign or an implication of not giving the person in the front one’s complete attention. The response given by the barista went along the same lines.

Furthermore, the cashier at the coffee shop even asked the customer to go to other stores like Starbucks or Dunkin’ if they desire a lack of human interaction. Going on to even state that removing one’s AirPods helps in confirming whether or not the order is accurate, whilst also treating a cashier like a human being and not simply a brief service provider.

It’s an odd topic we discussed today so let us know in the comments down below regarding this scenario. Is it rude to talk to someone with earbuds on or should we move on with the growing trends and embrace technology.
