The global tablet market continued its steady decline in 2019 as reported by IDC in January. Despite the decline, Apple continued to experience some successes in that segment. Huawei is another OEM that also enjoys impressive performance in terms of tablet shipment. Xiaomi seems to have given up on the sector as it failed to launch a new Mi Pad version in 2019 and has yet to indicate if one will be launched this year. Despite the decline, Lenovo seems to be planning to launch a new tablet this year.Lenovo

Several Lenovo execs have revealed on Weibo that the company is working on a new tablet which will be unveiled soon. Lin Lin, product manager of Lenovo notebooks had hinted that the tablet should be expensive as the company wasn’t interested in making low-priced tablets. The exec. was probably referring to the Legion range of products.

In contrast, another official of the Chinese company shared some more details which point to an affordable tablet model. The exec hinted that the device was manufactured with the price-performance ratio at the forefront. The tablet will even be priced below 1500 yuan ($arund $200). Thus, the company may likely be working on more than one tablets, with the high-end one expected to hit in the second half of the year. The budget tablet may be launched soon.

The company will also launch a gaming mobile phone which is said to be launched. The tablet won’t be powered by a Qualcomm processor and so may actually be a 2-in-1 Windows tablet powered by an Intel SoC.

We’ll have to wait for more details to emerge but the expected product may be a successor to the Lenovo MIIX520 2-in-1 tablet that was launched in 2018 equipped with Intel’s eighth-generation i7-8550U. The tablet has not been updated for the past two years. So, the upcoming model may be an update to the lineup.
