Last year, in March, Xiaomi-backed Redmi brand had launched its true wireless earphones — Redmi AirDots for a price of 99 yuan (~$14). They became so popular that within months of its launch, the company sold 3 million units.
A couple of months ago, in April, the company launched yet another variant of the same, dubbed Redmi AirDots S with better connectivity. Now, the company has announced the next-generation true wireless earphones — Redmi AirDots 2.
The earphones will be available for crowdfunding in China from 22nd July for a price of 79 yuan, which roughly converts to $11. Once the crowdfunding campaign is completed, the regular retail price of the Redmi AirDots 2 will be 99 yuan (~$14).
It comes with a 7.2mm sound driver which is claimed by the company to offer powerful low-frequency output as well as soft and delicate high-frequency and mid-frequency sound. The earphones also support Environment Noise Reduction technology so whenever you are on a call, it removes the unnecessary surrounding noises for better clarity of sound.
One of the major differences between the Redmi AirDots and AirDots 2 is the upgraded Bluetooth chip. This newly launched model comes packed with Bluetooth 5.0 compared to the Bluetooth 4.2 support in its predecessor.

Thanks to the newer Bluetooth 5.0 chip in these earphones, the connection speed is now faster and more stable as the data transmission rate is doubled compared to Bluetooth 4.2 packed in the previous model.
When the earphones are tapped twice, it triggers XiaoAI Voice Assistant which supports several different functions, including Find My Phone, Navigation, WeChat Messaging, Taking Photo, among others.
Looking at the specifications and features of the Redmi AirDots 2, the earphones look almost identical to the AirDots S launched a few months ago.
The Redmi AirDots 2 is lightweight as each earbud weighs just 4.1 grams. The company is offering three earplugs — Small, Medium, and Large to ensure a better fit for every user. As for the battery life, it offers 4 hours of continuous playback but with the charging case, it offers up to 12 hours of usage.
