With the iPhone 12 series being right around the corner, rumors regarding the 2020 Apple flagship have been surfacing online. However, it is an older iPhone model that is grabbing headlines, as the iPhone 11 was the best selling smartphone in the world for the first half of 2020.

According to Omdia, an analytics and research based firm, the Cupertino based giant sold 37.7 million units of iPhone 11 in the first half of 2020. Previously, it was the iPhone XR that topped the charts during the same period back in 2019. Although, the iPhone XR only sold 26.9 million units, which indicates that the iPhone 11 has been more popular and successful. It also suggests that a relatively reasonably priced premium handset from Apple can have the company rope in more customers.

Notably, the three other smartphones that made the top selling list couldn’t reach Apple’s dominance in the market even if they were combined. The Samsung Galaxy A51 sold 11.4 million units, while the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro sold 11 million and 10.2 million units respectively. Interestingly, the fifth best selling device was also an Apple handset, which was the iPhone SE that sold 8.7 million units. Despite being launched a year ago, the iPhone 11 is still the more affordable one, within its series and was quite popular in multiple markets.
