Apple has postponed the iPhone 12 launch event this year, which is said to be the result of production issues because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To meet the deadline, it was recently reported that Foxconn is running the operation 24 hours a day and has canceled workers’ holidays.

Not just that, it is also being reported that the company has introduced mandatory overtime with bonuses for longer-serving staff. However, the company has now responded and said that the news is fake and no such action has been taken.

Even though companies are trying to shift the majority of the production outside of China, they are still dependent on China when it comes to supply chain and production, which remains central to the country dispute anti-China sentiments because of its failure in containing the COVID-19 pandemic.

China was the first country to hit by COVID-19 but it managed to quickly recover, especially on the production side. With operations resumed, it will now play a major role in production and manufacturing globally.

The report from SCMP cited the company’s employee Wang Guofeng who claimed that overtime work had increased since summer and most workers were allowed to take only four days off per month. Another employee added that the company production lines are running 24 hours a day with the introduction of new night shifts.

The same report also claims that employees have been asked to cancel their upcoming holidays around the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day to ensure timely delivery of the new iPhone 12 models.

While Apple has not yet confirmed the launch date for the upcoming smartphones, reports indicate that the company will announce four models — iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max on 13th October.
