While Samsung is known for its expertise with OLED technology, especially on its high end TVs, the company is betting big on another newer display technology as well. The South Korean tech giant has been investing in its Mini LED TVs as of late and is now targetting two million units in Mini LED TV sales in 2021.

According to a SamMobile report, a TrendForce analysis has revealed that the company will launch its upcoming QLED TV lineup that will feature Mini LED backlighting technology by next year. The new high end offerings are expected to feature 4K panels and arrive in multiple size variants including 55 inch, 65 inch, 75 inch, and even 85 inch versions. The new Mini LED TVs will offer a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 which is much greater than the 10,000:1 found in the company’s current generation of TVs, which is just another improvement the new display technology offers.

Samsung’s upcoming series of Mini LED powered QLED TVs is also expected to arrive with various other improvements as well as higher brightness, better HDR, and wider color gamut to name a few. At the moment, Apex, Epistar, FitTech, Macroblock, San’an Optoelectronics, and Saultech are racing to ramp up Mini LED chip production for Samsung, although, these offerings are currently in just the sampling stage.

Keep in mind that mini LED does not offer a vastly better image quality than LCD panels, but they are known to be more cost effective, especially when compared to traditional OLEDs. Notably, Apple is expected to soon launch an iPad Pro with a Mini LED based technology later this year and even LG is expected to debut its Mini LED TVs next year as well.
