Regulators in Sweden have banned the use of telecommunications equipment from Chinese providers, Huawei and ZTE. This arrives just prior to the government’s auction of the 5G networking spectrum that is scheduled for November 2020.

The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) have stated that the license conditions followed assessments by the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Security Service. This is another example of European nations reviewing the role of Chinese companies in building their networking infrastructure, which follows after the initial ban from the US government.

According to an Aljazeera report, Chinese brands have been faced with various accusations regarding national security and espionage in recent times. Furthermore, the US government has also pressured other nations to follow suit with the ban, which was the case with the UK that is planning on replacing all Huawei equipment from the country’s infrastructure by 2027.
