ASUS has been teasing its next ROG flagship Gaming smartphone in China for a while now. The device, which is expected to launch next month, is now officially confirmed as ROG Phone 5.
The company confirmed the moniker of the next ROG Phone 5 via a Weibo post while talking about the Tencent Games Collab. ASUS said that it is entering into the third successful collaboration with Tencent Games(2019-2021). To recall, ASUS had partnered with Tencent Games back in the ROG Phone 2 launch in 2019.
Anyway, ASUS hasn’t confirmed the launch date yet but reports say that the device could launch in India in March. There is also a possibility that ASUS might announce it at the upcoming MWC Shanghai that is scheduled for Feb. 23-25. This is just our guess so let’s wait for official confirmation.
As for the device itself, it could come in two variants- ASUS_I005DA and ASUS_I005DB. Among these, the I005DA seems to have a secondary screen on the back that’s nothing but a Dot-Matrix LED like the ones on ROG Zephyrus G14 Laptops. The second variant, however, doesn’t have it.
Thus the I005DB could just be an affordable version of the ROG Phone 5 debuting in certain markets. Apart from this, as mentioned above, we can also expect a ‘Tencent Games’ edition exclusive for China.
Regarding the specs, the TENAA listing reveals that the device will have a 6.78-inch display, Snapdragon 888 chipset, horizontally stacked Triple-cameras, 6,000mAh dual-cell battery, and Android 11 OS.
Other expected specs include a 64MP main camera, AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, 65W Rapid charging.
