According to an AppleInsider report, the initiative, starting from September of this year, will have every student between 10 to 17 years of age receive their own iPad. This was made possible by the government due to a 17.6 million GBP (roughly 24 million US Dollars) grant, which was rolled out via partnership with the city of Edinburgh Council’s ICT services provider CGI. Through this, younger students will now also receive iPads, although, the city has not listed the exact number of units that will be available yet.

Furthermore, the Apple iPads being given away are a part of the Empowered Learning program, which will provide the devices in a phased roll out starting from September 2021 and go on through the end of next year. In the program, 27,000 new iPads will be issued to students and staff, while another 12,000 refreshed iPads will also be given out to both the staff and students as well. These devices will also e backed by the schools in the region expanding their wireless connectivity by adding additional wireless access points.
