Taiwanese tech giant ASUS last week launched the Zenfone 8 series for the global market. The India launch was postponed by the company due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic in the Asian country. The Zenfone 8 has now been spotted on Google’s website, listed under the Google Play supported devices.

What makes the listing spectacular is that the phone bears the moniker ASUS 8Z. The model also comes with the model numbers ASUS_I006D and ZS590KS. The ASUS _I006D model number aligns with the number with which the device appeared on India’s BIS certification website. There was no mention of an alternate name for the higher-end Zenfone 8 Flip which is an indication that the Flip model may not launch in India.

There is precedence to this pattern of naming the Zenfone series models differently in China. The Zenfone 6 released in 2019 was launched in India as ASUS 6Z. This is due to a court order issued over a trademark issue about the use of the ‘Zen’ or ‘ZenFone’ moniker.

Thus, expect the Zenfone 8 as ASUS 8Z in India soon. The device will likely retain the same specs as the Zenfone 8. To refresh our memories, the smartphone is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 888 processor paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5 storage. The device sports a 5.9-inch E4 AMOLED screen with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is covered by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

The phone runs on the custom Zen UI based on Android 11. As for the camera, the phone packs a dual-camera set up made up of a 64MP main sensor assisted by a 12MP ultra-wide camera. At the front, there is a 12MP front camera. There is also a generous 4000mAh battery under the hood with 30W Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support.
