Japanese tech giant Sony has officially unveiled the much-touted Xperia Ace 2 smartphone in its home market. The Xperia Ace 2 has been in the news for quite some time, the most recent was an appearance in Google Play Console. Sony Xperia Ace 2

The Sony Xperia Ace 2 can at best be regarded as a budget smartphone and was finally officially listed on the Japanese market. Sony has over the year garnered a reputation for launching compact phones under the Xperia brand but that has not panned out well in recent times. Thus, the company has shifted to a larger, albeit awkward 21:9 aspect ratio which ensures the models stay slim while offering a large display. The Xperia Ace 2 deviates as it packs a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display which is small compared to most phones in the market presently.  The display has an HD+ resolution and is covered by a layer of Gorilla Glass 6.

The budget phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, knocking off earlier rumors that the Xperia Ace 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 chip. Thus, the phone supports 4G LTE connectivity. The processor pairs with 4GB of RAM while there is 64GB of internal storage. There is an option of storage expansion via a MicroSD card.

For photography, the smartphone houses an 8MP selfie shooter under the waterdrop notch. It also features a dual-camera setup at the rear which includes a 13MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The phone which weighs 159g packs a side-mounted fingerprint sensor integrated with the power button.

Despite its budget outlook, the Xperia Ace 2 comes with an IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating. It also retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and crams a 4500mAh battery under the hood.

The Xperia Ace 2 is billed to go on sale in Japan on May 28 and will be available in black, white, and blue. The phone is priced at 22,000 yen (about $201).
