TSMC has recently announced that it is expecting to start the trial production for its 4nm process ahead of schedule. This news also arrives as the firm begins construction of a new 5nm process based chip factory in the US.

According to an iFeng report, the world’s largest contract chipmaker will be starting the trial production for the 4nm process in the third quarter of this year. In other words, the company will be beginning the trial production one quarter earlier than what was previously planned. Meanwhile, the 3nm process will be completed in the year 2022, as per schedule, with mass production starting within half a year.
In a recent tech forum, TSMC announced the latest technological developments in advanced logic technology, specialty technologies, and the additions of its 3DFabric advanced packaging and chip stacking technologies as well. Furthermore, the firm is also projected to lead the industry in mass production of 5nm technology in 2020, while its yield rate is said to increase faster than 7nm technology. The company’s CEO further added that 3nm process development is progressing as planned, with mass production to start from Fab 18 wafers in the second half of 2022.

Interestingly, the company also announced new technologies like the N5A for automotive applications, N6RF for next-generation 5G smartphones and WiFi 6/6e performance, and enhancements across the range of 3DFabric technologies.
