Xiaomi launched the Mi 9 SE in early 2019 as the world’s first Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 smartphone. It was unveiled alongside the Mi 9 and the Mi 9 Explorer Edition (aka Mi 9 Transparent Edition). The device debuted with MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie. It was later updated to MIUI 11, followed by Android 11 and MIUI 12 respectively. Now, two years after its release, the handset has started receiving the MIUI 12.5 update in international markets.

Xiaomi began to roll out the MIUI 12.5 update for the Chinese variant of the Mi 9 SE in late March. The update also brought Android 11 for this phone, just like the company confirmed back in December 2020.

The same update has now started seeding out for the internal variants of this smartphone. Currently, the Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for the Mi 9 SE is live for the ‘Global’ variant with build number V12.5.1.0.RFBMIXM.

The above-mentioned software build is labeled ‘Stable’. Therefore, theoretically, the update should be available for all units of the Mi 9 SE Global variant. Anyway, since OTA updates are known for staged rollout, it may take some time to reach all units.

Last but not least, the remaining two international variants of the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, namely ‘EEA’ and ‘Russia’ should also get the MIUI 12.5 update based on Android 11 in the coming days.
