A new report has revealed that Apple might be making the wireless charging coil on the iPhone 13 series a bit larger than the previous generation. It is also possible that the change might even bring support for reverse wireless charging as well.

Apple

According to a new rumor from Max Weinbach (Via MacRumors), the Cupertino based giant plans on housing a larger physical wireless charging coil on the rear of this year’s iPhone lineup. This, in turn, would mean the increase of the surface area of the wireless charging. Previously, Weinbach had also reported that the upcoming iPhone 13 would feature stronger MagSafe magnets as well. Now, he believes that this might be the reason for the larger coil size.

Furthermore, Weinbach also added that this could also imply of the arrival of reverse wireless charging support in the next gen iPhones. For those unaware, this technology enables users to charge devices that support wireless charging from their iPhones. For example, one could charge their AirPods through an iPhone 13 model, by simply placing the hearables on the rear of the smartphone.

As of right now, it is unsure if the company is actually aiming on bringing this feature to its products anytime soon. Although, rumors have surfaced of the 2022 iPad Pro featuring reverse wireless charging technology. Since this technology can cause a drain on a smartphone, it seems more feasible on a larger device like the iPad. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.
