Last year, Huami marked its entry into the earbuds space with the launch of the Amazfit ZenBuds and Amazfit PowerBuds. Today, it has announced its third model called the Amazfit PowerBuds Pro, and it packs a handful of health features as well as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro featured

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro Design

The Amazfit PowerBuds Pro completely ditches the design of its predecessor. Huami has adopted the stem design made popular by the AirPods and has also redesigned the case too. Both the earbuds and case have a two-tone matte finish – gray on the inside and white on the outside.

Each earbud weighs 6.7 grams and has IP55 dust and water-resistance rating making them suitable for sweaty workouts and the occasional times you are caught up in the rain. Users get four pairs of silicone earplugs of different sizes.

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro Health Features

The PowerBuds Pro is not just any ordinary pair of earbuds. Huami says it can track your speed, time, distance, calories burned, heart rate, pace, and step count when applicable while walking, running, and cycling. Just like some smartwatches, the earbuds will automatically begin tracking these metrics once it detects you have begun running.

Users will also receive real-time voice notifications about their distance, heart rate, and more with every kilometer or mile when running, walking, or cycling. You will also be able to get the info on demand by tapping the right earbud. Yes, the right earbud is the one with the PPG optical heart rate sensor.

Another cool feature of the PowerBuds Pro is its ability to detect and show in the app the sitting angle of your cervical spine. If your position hasn’t changed in a long while, you will get a rhythm to which you can move your neck to relax.

There is also a volume analysis feature that will advise you on a safe listening volume and a recommended listening time. Last is a Motion Beat Mode that automatically makes what you are listening to stronger and clearer when you are working out.

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro Audio Features

For the audio features, the addition of Active Noise Cancellation is one of the major upgrades. Huami claims noise can be reduced by up to 40dB with a combination of hybrid digital adaptive noise-reduction and passive sound insulation.

The PowerBuds Pro has four noise cancellation modes – indoor, travel, sports/workout, and an adaptive mode that automatically adjusts depending on your environment. There is also Thru Mode, Huami’s take on Transparency Mode, that allows you to hear the world around you. This comes in handy when having conversations or listening for announcements.

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro microphones

The earbuds have a total of six microphones (three on each) made up of two dual-beamforming digital mics and a call-pickup digital mic. An AI call noise-reduction algorithm helps reduce wind noise by up to 40dB and environmental noise by up to 35db.

The PowerBuds Pro has smart in-ear detection (automatic pause and play when you remove and put the earbuds). It supports touch controls and also works with the voice assistant on your phone. Connection is fast (simply opening the case will get them to pair with your phone) but the first setup needs you to connect via the Zepp app. Huami says that an OTA update will bring support for Google Fast Pair.

Amazfit PowerBuds Pro battery life

The earbuds have a battery life of up to 30 hours with the case. The earbuds will last up to 9 hours with ANC off but that drops to 5 hours 45 minutes when you turn on ANC. That number drops further to 3 hours 30 minutes for calls and with ANC turned on. The battery capacity in each earbud is 68mAh while that of the case is 510mAh. The case charges via USB-C and charging time takes 2.5 hours.

Price and Availability

The Amazfit PowerBuds Pro is priced at $149.99 and is available in one colorway called Frost White. There is no info on when it will be available.
