With the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 launch already behind us, the next major Galaxy Unpacked event should be for the Galaxy S22 series next year. Details of the new S-series flagships have been flying around for weeks now and it is expected to continue until right before they are announced. Fresh details have surfaced today and they are mainly about the displays.

According to the Korean blog, Naver, the Galaxy S22 series will not feature an under-display camera like the Galaxy Z Fold3. The Twitter user, Tron (@FrontTron), known for Samsung-related leaks posted that the technology isn’t advanced enough yet for mass production. Considering more people will most likely be buying the S-series, it makes sense that Samsung is pulling back on the UDC technology as it won’t want to sabotage sales with a selfie camera that is less than desirable.
While Samsung is sticking to punch holes for the front-facing camera, it is making a major change with respect to the size of the displays. The Galaxy S22 will have a display size of 6.06 inches while the Galaxy S22 Plus will have a screen size of 6.55 inches. These are smaller compared to the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 Plus which have 6.2-inch and 6.7-inch displays respectively.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 6.81-inch screen, practically unchanged from the S21 Ultra. The source says Samsung is trying to properly distinguish the Plus and Ultra models with this significant difference in screen sizes.
For the processors, it has been reported that there is a high possibility of Samsung shipping the phones with a Snapdragon 895 processor in its home country of Korea. However, due to the low yield, only the S22 Ultra may feature the Exynos 2200 chipset.
Tron has also revealed that the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus will have triple rear cameras that include a 50MP sensor and two 12MP sensors. For the Galaxy S22 Ultra, there will be four cameras on the back – a 108MP main sensor, three 12MP sensors, and a laser autofocus module.
These are all of the new details about the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. More details are expected to surface soon.
