In 2015, when OnePlus announced its second smartphone, the OnePlus 2, the manufacturer added a feature that has now become a signature of the brand. That feature is the Alert Slider, a physical switch for sound control. Since then, the metallic textured button has appeared on all OnePlus phones save for its budget models.
The Alert Slider is one of the most beloved features of a OnePlus as it makes it easy for users to switch between ring profiles without the need to unlock the device. You don’t even have to get the phone out of your pocket or purse to activate your preferred sound profile. The Alert Slider is inspired by the Ring/Silent switch on the iPhone. However, as popular as it is, we haven’t seen other manufacturers adopt (read copy) the feature considering it isn’t uncommon for brands to adopt a feature from competitors that is a hit among users.
