Xiaomi just launched the POCO M4 Pro 5G in the global market: it is essentially a rebrand of the Redmi Note 11 (there is only a small difference in the design) and it carries an outstanding price tag. Thanks to a launch deal, the phone has been made available for just €199: an amazing price for a mid-ranger with 5G and great overall specifications. But there is another POCO device available since early this year that carries astonishing street prices, and it is a flagship killer: we are talking about the POCO X3 Pro. Does it make sense to go for the new POCO M4 Pro 5G or the POCO X3 Pro is actually a better deal? This comparison between their specifications will shed some light on this question.

Design

The advantage of the POCO M4 Pro 5G is the fact that it is a more compact phone, while the POCO X3 Pro is a very chunky device as it weighs 215 grams and it is 9.4 mm thick. The POCO M4 Pro 5G is not among the thinnest and most lightweight phones, but it is definitely easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket. On the other hand, the POCO X3 Pro looks to have better build quality as its display sports the Gorilla Glass 6 protection. Both the phones have a plastic body, so do not expect premium materials. But they both come with some kind of water and dust resistance (the IP53 certification).

Display

The display of the POCO X3 Pro is not only wider if compared to the POCO M4 Pro 5G, but even superior in terms of image quality. Unfortunately, it is an IPS panel, so if you are looking for those bright colors you get with AMOLED displays, you will be left disappointed. But it comes with an amazing 120 Hz refresh rate and the HDR10 certification improving the image quality on streaming platforms. The POCO M4 Pro 5G comes with a Full HD+ IPS display as well, but its refresh rate goes up to 90 Hz and the phone lacks the HDR10 certification. Despite being very affordable, these two handsets sport a side-mounted fingerprint reader and stereo speakers.

Hardware/Software

The main advantage of the POCO X3 Pro is its amazing hardware department. Thanks to the Snapdragon 860 mobile platform which sits in the middle between Snapdragon 855+ and 865, it is able to provide flagship-class performance and that is the reason why it is a great device for gaming. The chip is paired with a RAM of up to 8 GB and a UFS 3.1 internal storage which furtherly enhances the overall performance. But there is one thing you need to know: the POCO X3 Pro lacks the 5G support. If you want a 5G phone, then you must accept the lower-end hardware department of the POCO M4 Pro 5G powered by the midrange-class MediaTek Dimensity 810 chipset. Both the phones run Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 to customize it.

Camera

The POCO M4 Pro 5G is equipped with a new upgraded main camera sporting a 50 MP resolution: this camera is actually better than the 48 MP sensor found on the POCO X3 Pro. The POCO X3 Pro instead provides a better front camera with a 20 MP resolution. The POCO M4 Pro 5G has just one secondary sensor on the rear: the 8 MP ultrawide camera, while the POCO X3 Pro adds a pair of 2 MP sensors, but we consider them useless and I believe it is better to get a device with a better main camera such as the POCO M4 Pro 5G.

Battery

The POCO X3 Pro is equipped with a slightly bigger battery sporting a capacity of 5160 mAh, but this does not mean that it provides a longer battery life in every scenario. Due to its higher refresh rate and the worse production process of its chipset, its battery life could be inferior with some usage patterns.

Xiaomi POCO M4 Pro 5G vs Xiaomi POCO X3 Pro: Price

POCO M4 Pro 5G starts from €199/$229, and you can currently find the POCO X3 Pro close to that price thanks to the best street prices. There is no definitive winner of this comparison: if you need 5G and a better camera, then POCO M4 Pro 5G is a smarter choice. But if you want a stronger processor and a better display, then go for the POCO X3 Pro (which would be my actual choice).
