Earlier today (18th November 2021), Huawei launched a special variant of its Mate X2 foldable smartphone. Within just a few seconds, the new Mate X2 Collector’s Edition was sold out, despite the device being an ultra high end device.

The new special edition of the Mate X2 was priced at 18,999 Yuan (roughly 2,976 US Dollars). For those unaware, this variant of the Mate X2 upgrades the original’s 8GB of RAM to 12GB, which is paired with 512GB of internal storage. Under the hood, the ultra premium handset sports the HiSilicon Kirin 9000 processor, which supports 5G networking. Apart from the minor changes, the device is basically the same in other aspects to the original version.

Since Huawei was cut off from its primary chip supplier TSMC, the Kirin 9000 5G SoC are based on the remaining inventory of its in house chipset. In other words, its supply is very limited, which, in turn, would’ve raised its value as a “Collector’s” item. And with the brand’s high popularity in its home market, it arrives as no surprise that it was sold out in mere seconds. Interestingly, some users even took to online channels to resell this model owing to the surprising demand. These online listings have started accepting bids (Via ITHome), with the highest bid even crossing a whopping 21,000 Yuan (roughly 3,200 US Dollars).
