MIUI 13 development is currently under full swing and a number of recent high-end models have already received internal builds in the stable beta channel. While other OEMs like Samsung, OPPO, and OnePlus have already unveiled their software skins for Android 12, Xiaomi has been rather late to the party, with still no sign of any major upgrade almost two months after Android 12 hit stable. But that will apparently be changing soon.
Xiaomiui has reported that the next iteration of Xiaomi’s heavily customized Android skin – MIUI 13 – might be announced on December 16 in China, or in just 20 days from now. The event is reportedly going to be quite a major one and is also expected to announce the next flagship Xiaomi 12 phone. But of course, a 4-hour long event is still a bit too long for just two products, and we may therefore see multiple other launches.
Coming to MIUI 13 itself, the Android skin has been touted to be a major upgrade over MIUI 12.5, bringing along a range of improvements and UI changes. At least 9 devices are currently known to have already received internal test builds, namely the entirety of the Mi 11 series, Mi 11 Lite 5G, Mi 10S, MIX 4, and the Redmi K40/K40 Pro/K40 Pro+. These devices will likely be receiving Android 12-based MIUI 13 stable but several others will even receive Android 11-based MIUI 13.
As for features, there’s barely anything known at the moment – Xiaomi has been rather tight-lipped about it all. Still, we have had a few hints in the recent past including re-designed File Manager and Themes apps. MIUI 13 is also expected to bring along new wallpapers and icons.
