Qualcomm recently unveiled its next-generation flagship smartphone processor, dubbed Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which will be powering the upcoming premium smartphones, starting with flagship phones from Xiaomi and Motorola later this month.

Today, at its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit, the company has unveiled several new products and one of them is the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform. It is an Android-based platform that is designed to allow you to play Android games and stream them from a console or PC or play games through cloud services.

Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform

The Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 platform can be used to make handheld gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck. It packs the new G3x chip which has Kryo CPU and an Adreno GPU that lets you play games at 144fps.

It supports output to a 4K display or tethering to a mixed reality headset over a USB-C port. As for the connectivity, the platform supports Wi-Fi 6, 6E, and 5G sub-6 GHz and mmWave for faster speeds. It also comes packed with Snapdragon Sound which is designed to improve audio quality.

Qualcomm has partnered with Razer to showcase this new gaming platform. It has built the first Snapdragon G3x Handheld Gaming Developer Kit that features a 6.65-inch OLED screen with support for 120Hz refresh rates and has a 5MP webcam on the front so that players can livestream while playing a game.

So far, there’s no information available about which other manufacturers will be launching devices powered by this new Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 Gaming Platform. Qualcomm’s Micah Knapp says that the company is currently focusing on the developer community and launching devices is up to OEMs.
