Japanese tech giant Panasonic was quiet for a long time and we have barely seen the company deal in smartphones or tablets. But, today, the company has officially launched the Panasonic Toughbook S1 tablet in the Indian market. Its major highlights are its rugged body, extendable battery, and Snapdragon 660 SoC.

The Panasonic is priced at ₹98,000(~$1,294) making it one of the premium rugged tablets in the market. To compare, the tablet costs a whopping $2,499(~₹1,89,000) in the US. It comes in a single colour variant which has a combination of Black coloured back and Silver edges.

The Panasonic Toughbook S1 sports a rugged design with a 7-inch WXGA(1200 X 800 pixels) resolution screen. It is an IPS LCD panel with thick bezels. It isn’t a surprise that the device has got chunky bezels since it is a rugged tablet.

It comes with a 13MP camera at the rear and a 5MP camera at the front. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 onboard storage. It has Adreno 512 GPU.

Reportedly, the tablet is marketed towards logistics, transportation, other field bases sectors. It has a 3,200mAh and a 5,580mAh extendable battery. It is claimed to offer up to 8 hours of battery backup with the 3,200mAh-cell, whereas, the 5,580mAh-cell will offer up to 14 hours of battery life.

Since it’s a rugged device, it has an IPx6, IPx5, and IPx7 water and dust resistant rating. The tablet supports 4GB LTE and dual-band Wi-Fi. It has NFC support and has a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack port.
