Among the first companies which released a flagship with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform, there are two brands that a lot of people would never expect. Motorola is not one of the main smartphone brands, yet it released the first device with the best Qualcomm chipset for 2022. Another device came up from Vivo’s sub-brand iQOO. Vivo is yet to release a phone with this processor, but its sub-brand already did. The Motorola Edge X30 and the iQOO 9 Pro share an important thing in common: an aggressive price tag. This will help these brands to grow up in the flagship segment. This is a comparison that will highlight the differences between their specifications.

Design
In my opinion, the iQOO 9 Pro has the most attractive design for two reasons. First of all, it has a beautifully curved screen at the sides and a very high screen to body ratio of close to 90 percent. Further, it comes with a very original glass back, especially in the BMW M Motorsport Edition coming with the iconic BMW M Motorsport colors. On the other hand, the Motorola Edge X30 is still a good option with its beautiful aesthetics and its water-repellent body protected by Gorilla Glass 5. However, the Motorola Edge X30 is less impressive because it has a lower screen to body ratio and a flat display.
Display
The display of the iQOO 9 Pro is actually superior to the one found on the Motorola Edge X30. It is an AMOLED display with the LTPO technology (adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz for low energy consumption), one billion colors, the HDR10+ certification, Dolby Vision, and a Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels, as well as a fast and accurate in-display fingerprint scanner. The Motorola Edge X30 is equipped with a great panel: an OLED display with one billion colors, an even higher 144 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and an in-display fingerprint reader. However, due to the lower Full HD+ resolution and the absence of other advanced technologies such as LTPO and Dolby Vision, it loses the comparison.
Specs & Software
As already mentioned, the iQOO 9 Pro and the Motorola Edge X30 are powered by the same chipset: the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 running at a max frequency of 3 GHz. The chip is paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 native storage, but with the iQOO 9 Pro, you can get more internal storage: up to 512 GB instead of just 256 GB. This is what makes the difference between the hardware departments of these devices. The operating system installed on both the devices is Android 12, customized by Origin OS Ocean and MYUI, respectively.
Camera
If you are in need of the most advanced cameras, then you should go for the iQOO 9 Pro without thinking twice. It has a 50 MP main sensor with gimbal stabilization which is actually superior to the classic OIS systems. It adds a 50 MP ultrawide camera with a wide 150° FOV, as well as a telephoto sensor with a 16 MP resolution, OIS, and a 2.5x optical zoom. The Motorola Edge X30 has a 50 MP main sensor as well and a 50 MP ultrawide camera but with a lower FOV. The telephoto lens gets replaced by a useless 2 MP macro camera, but the front camera is actually better with its 60 MP resolution.
Battery
The battery of the Motorola Edge X30 is bigger with a capacity of 5000 mAh and it is able to provide a longer battery life. But the iQOO 9 Pro supports faster 120W charging and, unlike the Edge X30, it even supports wireless charging.
Price
The starting price of the iQOO 9 Pro roughly translates into €795/$899, while you need just €420/$475 for the Motorola Edge X30. The iQOO flagship wins the comparison thanks to a better display and superior cameras, but the Motorola one provides a higher value for money. Which one would you pick?
