OnePlus recently announced a new variant of its flagship OnePlus 10 Pro smartphone in the Chinese market, dubbed as OnePlus 10 Extreme Edition which comes in White color. This is similar to what OnePlus did with the last year’s 9 Pro flagship smartphone.

While there are many flagship smartphones available in the market from different brands but very few of them have a white color option and now an executive of OnePlus has explained the reason behind this.

Liu Fengshuo, President of the OnePlus product line has shared details on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo about the lack of White-colored smartphones in the market. He is attributing this to three major reasons.

First, the process of producing a white-colored device with accurate color, material, and finish (aka CMF) is more difficult as the slight variation in the craftsmanship delivery a completely different final output.

The second reason is said to be the low yield rate which raises the cost of producing white-colored models compared to other colors. He adds that the company tested over 100 effects over a three-month period before finalizing the OnePlus 10 Pro Extreme Edition.

Lastly, the white color is more prone to fingerprints and smudges which doesn’t make it an attractive option for phone manufacturers. However, Liu Fengshuo says that OnePlus was able to overcome this issue with its latest device.

The OnePlus 10 Pro Extreme Edition aka White Edition comes in a single variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It is priced at 5,799 yuan, which roughly converts to $917, and will be available for purchase in China from 1st March.
