At MWC 2022, Huawei introduced the Huawei MatePad 2022 and the MatePad Paper e-ink tablet on the global stage. And today, the company has debuted these devices in China.

The company has released two versions of the MatePad in China. First is the MatePad with the HiSilicon Kirin 710A chip and the other variant is called the MatePad Yuedong version, which comes equipped with the Snapdragon 778G SoC.

The Huawei MatePad 2022 sports a 10.4-inch IPS FullView touchscreen display with a resolution of 2000×120 pixels, 16.7 million colors, and 470nits brightness. The MatePad 2022 features a multi-window mode, as well as the Huawei Share multi-screen collaboration. It is also TuV Rheinland certified.

The processor is paired with 6GB RAM while the device comes with 64GB and 128GB storage options with support for expansion up to 512GB. The device runs HarmonyOS 2 out of the box which has a comprehensive improvement in system fluency compared with EMUI.

For the photography, the MatePad features a 13MP main camera at the rear with f/1.8 aperture and autofocus. The slate also comes with an 8MP selfie camera.

The tablet has a 7250mAh battery on board with support for 22.5W fast charging. There are multiple sensors present on the device like ambient light sensor, color temperature sensor, and more. The sound system is also tweaked by Harman Kardon.

Huawei also launched the MatePad Paper e-ink tablet which was ranked as one of the “Best of Mobile World Congress 2022.” This product from Huawei is quite unique as it doubles as both an e-book reader and a tablet.

The Huawei MatePad Paper packs a 10.3-inch grayscale display screen with a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels and 227 PPI pixel density. The e-ink display comes with added features such as an anti-glare and reflective screen that aids low-light use. It has moderate bezzles on three sides while the left edge is slightly wider to give it the appearance of an open book. The device features a screen-to-body ratio of 86.3%.

Under the hood, the MatePad Paper houses a Kirin 820E SoC up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The e-ink tablet boots HarmonyOS 2 bringing features such as the ability to easily establish a connection between the tablet and Huawei’s laptops, PCs, tablets, and phones.

Giving this tablet the feel of an actual notepad is the second generation M-Pencil which comes bundled with the machine. The screen is well responsive to the stylus as Huawei tweaked the sensitivity of the textured screen. The M-Pencil features 4096 Levels of Pressure Sensitivity and low latency of 26ms making tasks like taking notes, annotating, edit books and other documents fluid and natural.

The tablet comes with WiFi 6+, a fingerprint sensor embedded under the power button, and Bluetooth 5.2 support and crams a 3625mAh battery that can deliver up to 28 days of battery life on standby. It also comes with 22.5W fast charging which Huawei claims can deliver up to 6 days reading with just a 1.5-hour charge. It supports reverse charging.
