Google has added a long-demanded new feature to the At a Glance widget with the March update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Tapping on the day and month now takes you to the Google Calendar page for the same date, allowing you to set reminders and type in other events directly (via PhoneArena). Similarly, tapping on the current temperature shown on the widget takes you to the weather app, as it should. This is a welcome change over the previous implementation that fired up the weather app no matter what part of the widget was tapped.
But there are some more changes being demanded too. For example, several Pixel owners on Reddit said they want Google to return the feature from Android 11 where tapping on the time at the top of the widget opened the clock app.
We may perhaps see that come back considering Google isn’t done with the At a Glance widget just yet. A number of features are in the pipeline currently such as an alert for when a user has left the flashlight on and a notification for when someone’s at your front door.
Other features rumored to be making their way to the widget before the end of the year include a QR code representing your boarding pass that shows up automatically prior to the boarding of a flight.
