Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 back in December 2021. Recent reports have claimed that the company is working on a Plus edition of the SD8G1. It is speculated that Qualcomm’s rumored chip with the SM8475 part number may debut as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset. A new report by Onsitego cites tipster Yogesh Brar as the source and shares the launch timeframe of Qualcomm’s next flagship chip.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is built on Samsung’s 4nm process, whereas the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be based on the Taiwan-based TSMC’s 4nm semiconductor fabrication process. It is speculated that the Plus edition will be more efficient than the regular version.

The report claims that Qualcomm will announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ in early May. The US-based chip maker is also expected to unveil the new Snapdragon 700-series around the same time. The first smartphones powered by the SD8G1+ are expected to debut as early as June 2022.

Some of the brands that are expected to launch flagship phones powered by the SD8G1+ include Lenovo, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. A report from January revealed that the upcoming Lenovo Legion phone, codenamed “Halo could be one of the first phones to debut with the SD8G1+ chip. It is expected to arrive with specs such as a 6.67-inch OLED FHD+ 144Hz screen, a 16-megapixel front camera, and a 50-megapixel + 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera unit. It may come with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 68W fast charging support.

A Motorola flagship with Frontier’ codename and SD8G1+ is also in the works. It is expected to arrive with a 6.75-inch P-OLED FHD+ 144Hz screen, a 6-megapixel front camera, a 194-megapixel + 50-megapixel + 12-megapixel triple camera unit, up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with 125W fast charging and 50W wireless charging support.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 later this year are also expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC.
