The latest numbers from VGChartz indicate that Nintendo Switch sold more than 350 thousand units in the week ending March 27, 2022. This weekly sales figure for the Switch was better than that of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5. Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch lifetime units sold so far are put at 106.21 million, which dwarfed those of the PS5 (18.66 million) and the Xbox Series X|S (13.66 million).
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, predecessors of the PS5 and X|S respectively are the next two topmost consoles in terms of sales. Nintendo Switch is a popular handheld and hybrid gaming console introduced in 2017. Its compact and portable setup allows it to operate as a handheld portable gaming tablet or it can be docked to operate as a home console. Its versatility appeals to several segments of the gaming market and this could be a major driver of its humongous sales.
The pricing and quantum of games easily accessible on the console could also be another major driver of sales of the Nintendo Switch. Global shipments are expected to peak soon, but it seems a high order that the current Xbox Series X or PS5 consoles will get anywhere near the stellar heights of the Switch in terms of lifetime sales.
