A new report has revealed that Samsung Display might be planning on launching a new product that could rival its long time competitor, LG. The new product in question will be a rollable QD-OLED TV, which is what LG already offers.

According to TheElec report, sources close to the matter have claimed that the South Korean tech giant is currently working on the next generation of QD-OLED panels. The “aim is to reduce the use of glass substrates from the current two to one,” which would then allow for a new version that will be capable of rolling. The company’s display unit developing this new type of display technology implies that soon, Samsung Electronics will soon launch a rollable TV as well.

As of right now, the only commercially available TV with a rollable screen is the LG RX Rollable series OLED. This model was announced back in CES 2019 and was released in the market a year later. However, despite being quite an eye catching and innovative product, the 65 inch model alone cost a whopping 87,000 US Dollars. In other words, it is still too expensive to be mass produced or more widely available.

So, its possible that the rollable model released by Samsung could be cheaper than the only option in the market right now. However, considering the price of the QD-OLED TVs, it seems unlikely that such a model would be too affordable. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now and stay tuned for more updates.
