Last year, rumors had surfaced regarding Geely planning on launching a new brand that will focus on smartphones. However, this news was never confirmed by the company. But now, a new report has revealed that the company has achieved a patent for a smartphone.

According to a 163 report, the known Chinese carmaker is working on diversifying its operations outside of just automobiles. Apparently, one of these efforts would be focused towards smartphones. As per local media reports, the company had applied for two smartphone patents, which have now been granted. The patents in question highlights the main purpose of its design product.

Furthermore, the upcoming Geely smartphone features a punch hole selfie cut out on the display. On the other hand, the two patents feature a rear camera module that have different shapes and sizes. Although, both models feature a triple camera setup that is aligned in a triangular format. The first patented model has a large circular module on the rear, while the second model has a squarish module on the back panel. Interestingly, some netizens in China approved of this smartphone design.

As of right now, it is unknown if the company is actually working on such a product or is just simply covering all bases. However, based on our past reports, it is highly likely that Geely has smartphones planned to release in the future. Back in January 2022, we had even reported on the company possibly acquiring the Chinese smartphone brand Meizu. so it won’t be a surprise if the deal actually goes through.
