Google is attempting to re-enter the tablet market after the Pixel Slate was widely criticized, and then the company stopped making tablets. Now, the search engine giant confirmed its upcoming Pixel Tablet at the Google I/O 2022.

During the hardware presentation at Google I/O, the company teased a new product named Google Pixel Tablet, which is a premium Android-powered device and is set to get launched sometime next year.

Google Pixel Tablet

Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Devices and Services at Google, said that the upcoming Pixel Tablet is a premium device that will come powered by the company’s custom Tensor chips, similar to the latest Pixel series smartphones.

It appears that the company is making this new device as a consumer-focused gadget, especially for entertainment and consumption, rather than focusing on work. Apart from that, nothing is known about the upcoming tablet, not even details about the screen size, memory configuration, camera sensor, or software features.

But the renders have revealed what we should expect in terms of design. Based on the renders of the upcoming Pixel Tablet showcased by the company, it looks like the display is taken off from Google’s Nest Hub.

In the software department, the Pixel Tablet will be running the Android operating system out-of-the-box but a special version built for larger screens. The company has also promised to rebuild more than 20 of its own apps for large-screen devices, and some major third-party apps like Facebook, TikTok, Zoom and others will also be optimized.

Given that the Pixel Tablet is still far away from getting launched officially, it’s too early to get details about the product. But we expect to see leaks related to the tablet surface online in the coming months.
