We have already reported on various reports related to the Apple iPhone 14 series recently. And now, the latest report has revealed an interesting feature that might be making its way to the iPhone 14 Pro models.

According to a 9To5Mac report, multiple codes were spotted on the iOS 16 Developer Beta, which hints at the iPhone 14 Pro featuring Always On Display. Furthermore, this is in line with one of our previous reports. Back in May 2022, we had reported on the iPhone 14 Pro series featuring Always On Display thanks to improved screen refresh rate. The initial report had hinted at the feature being possible thanks to lower variable fresh rate on the next gen ProMotion display.

The new report states that provisions for this feature was also spotted on the iOS 16 code. This includes three frameworks that could be used by iOS 16 to improve efficiency on the backlight on the iPhone 14 Pro’s display. Notably, similar framework is typically seen in smartphone that feature Always On Display. As per our previous report, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max’s ProMotion display would be able to go as low as 1Hz refresh rate to help conserve battery life and enable Always On functionality.

While the iPhone 13 Pro series also featured ProMotion display with 120Hz refresh rate, its panel only supported as low as 10Hz refresh rate. Thus, it wasn’t suitable for the Always On Display feature. But an improved display would mean that the upcoming iPhones will offering this function and Apple is already working on bringing software support for it.
