The Wuling Air EV micro-electric vehicle has been announced in Indonesia. The Wulin Air EV is built by the SAIC-GM-Wuling partnership (SGMW) and it is the third micro-EV offering of the joint venture.
The release of the Wuling Air EV in Indonesia is a milestone of sorts. It is the Chinese company’s first EV to be sold outside China. It is also a first for the SGMW joint venture. It shares some similarities with its predecessor, the Hong Guang Mini EV, but includes some significant design differences. The Wuling Air EV is more upscale and more expensive than the Hong Guang Mini EV. It is based on the Global Small Electric Vehicle platform and comes with some decent features.
The Wuling Air EV is powered by a 40HP front-mounted electric motor that delivers a top speed of 100km/h. Its Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery will deliver a range of about 300km. However, the company has not provided the specific capacity of the micro EV’s battery. The Wuling Air EV comes slightly bigger than its predecessor. It has dimensions of 117 x 59.3 x 64.2 inches. Two wheelbase variants are available for the four-seat and two-seat models respectively. The wheelbase measures either 79.1 inches or 64.4 inches.
The Wuling Air EV has already notched an endorsement in Indonesia. It is the official car partner for the forthcoming G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022. The Wuling Air EV will launch in Indonesia within the second half of 2022. The Indonesia launch is expected to precede its China unveiling which is in the third quarter. The equivalent prices of the Wuling Air EV in Indonesia could hover around the equivalent of $8,250 and $9,745.
