When we talk about Realme and Xiaomi’s sub-brands, there are no limits when it comes to affordable phones. These companies release a huge number of budget devices every year and they are among the best ones for those who want to save money while still getting a great device. The latest affordable handset launched by Realme is the Realme V20: a phone which comes with 5G even though it offers the most affordable price. In a similar price range, you can find the POCO M4 5G: it is another of the most affordable phones with 5G connectivity. Given that these two devices are currently very hot, we decided to compare them. Here is a comparison between the specifications of the Realme V20 and the POCO M4 5G, very useful if you were wondering which will be your next entry-level phone.

Design

The Realme V20 is definitely one of the most beautiful entry-level devices out there. It has flat borders just like the iPhones, it has no big dimensions and its cameras do not come inside a camera module but they are placed directly on the rear side, even though they are protruding. The presence of a waterdrop notch ruins the overall design experience, but you can not pretend a punch hole on a so affordable phone. The POCO M4 5G is definitely less elegant because of its big camera module and classic curved borders. It has bigger dimensions, it is thicker than the Realme V20, and it comes with a waterdrop notch too. However, there are two important advantages when it comes to the build quality: it has the Gorilla Glass 3 protection and it is splash resistant, and it is not easy to find these elements on an affordable phone.

Display

The display of the POCO M4 5G is way better than the panel found on the Realme V20. It is an IPS LCD display with a diagonal of 6.58 inches, a 90 Hz refresh rate, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, protected by Gorilla Glass as already mentioned. The Realme V20 has an IPS panel with a 6.5-inch diagonal and an HD+ resolution of 720p, nothing special. As you can clearly see from the specifications, the display of the POCO M4 5G is able to show images with a higher level of detail and it even provides a smoother viewing experience thanks to a 90 Hz refresh rate. These displays are nothing special because they are low-end LCD panels, so do not expect a huge image quality. The POCO M4 5G and the Realme V20 are equipped with side-mounted fingerprint readers and they come with mono speakers, but they have a 3.5 mm audio jack for the headphones.

Hardware/Software

The Realme V20 and the POCO M4 5G are powered by the same processor: the Dimensity 700 by Mediatek built at 7 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. It is composed of two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 2 GHz, as well as a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. The Dimensity 700 is the most affordable 5G chipset by Mediatek to date but it provides good performance. The Realme V20 wins the comparison because it offers a higher amount of RAM: up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage, while the POCO M4 5G stops at 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB. Note that the POCO runs Android 12 out of the box, while the Realme is still based on Android 11. These phones are good for average or entry-level users, not for power users or gamers, but they are not disappointing in terms of performance.

Camera

The most advanced camera is the one found on the POCO M4 5G. It has a better main camera with a 50 MP resolution: it is not a camera phone, but it offers a decent photo quality. The main camera is paired with a 2 MP depth sensor. The Realme V20 has a 13 MP main camera and a 0.3 MP depth sensor, disappointing for those who look for great photo quality. So if you need the best camera phone in this comparison, you know what to choose without thinking twice.

Battery

There is no difference between the capacities of the batteries of these two phones. They both come with a 5000 mAh lithium unit, but the Realme V20 should provide a longer battery life on a single charge simply because its display is more efficient due to the HD resolution and standard refresh rate. On the other hand, the POCO M4 5G remains an amazing battery phone and, unlike the V20, it supports fast charging.

Realme V20 vs Xiaomi POCO M4 5G: Price

You need at least $239/€226 to purchase the POCO M4 5G, while the Realme V20 5G starts from about €141/$149. The POCO phone wins the comparison due to its better display, cameras, and fast charging, but the V20 is more affordable and beautiful.
