After dominating the smartphone, accessories, and home appliances market, Xiaomi is ready to set foot in the realm of cars. The company has already confirmed that it will mass-produce its first car in the first quarter of 2024. Rumors speculate that Xiaomi’s car will be a fully-featured self-driving electric vehicle that will compete with the likes of Tesla and other EVs. Today, a Weibo blogger shared a real-life picture of a Xiaomi self-driving test car, which signals the company is getting ahead with developments.

Apparently, a car blogger who goes by the username Deroy has shared a picture of Xiaomi’s self-driving test car. The car can be seen to have a sleek design with a lidar sensor on the roof. We are not car experts but the design sure does look cool. However, this is just a test car and the final design will likely change. It’s even possible that the car seen in the image belongs to some other brand and Xiaomi is just using it to test Lidar sensors and other self-driving technologies.

The upcoming Xiaomi vehicle is likely to be autonomous. The lidar sensor seen on the roof of the car is a key component of any self-driving vehicle. It provides a 3D vision for a vehicle’s computer and mechanical system to make driving decisions.

Xiaomi is pretty serious about cars. Earlier this year, the Chinese smartphone maker revealed plans to invest around 10 billion yuan (roughly $1.5 billion) over 10 years. Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, will be serving as the CEO of the new smart electric vehicles business.

It will be interesting to see what wonders Xiaomi cars can achieve. Do you think Xiaomi cars are going to be as popular as its smartphones? Let us know in the comments.
