Global smartphone market Q2 2022

As mentioned earlier, Samsung took first place with 21% of the market share. However, its shipments decreased by 16% from the previous quarter despite a 6% annual gain as the vendor battled unhealthy inventory levels, particularly in the mid-range. Samsung is promoting its low-end A series products aggressively and heavily, taking advantage of the mass market’s low-cost ODM production to boost consumer demand.

Apple stayed in the second spot thanks to the solid demand for the iPhone 13 series in North America, China, and Europe.

The Chinese OEMs continued to bleed due to a number of lockdowns during the quarter. The report indicated the market share of Oppo decreased from 11% to 10%, whereas Vivo went down from 10% to 9% and Xiaomi also suffered with its market share dropping from 17% to 14%.

“There will be increasing tensions throughout the entire smartphone supply chain as demand weakness will likely continue for an extended period,” said Toby Zhu, Canalys Analyst. “The market is experiencing exceptionally challenging business conditions. Vendors should improve transparency when working with component suppliers and channel partners in the following quarters. Geopolitical issues, a dip in consumer confidence, and high inflation will continue to damage future market performance, despite upcoming new launches and festival sales in the second half of 2022.”
