Earlier today (25th August 2022), Samsung Electronics announced a new SSD model in the US. It is the new 990 PRO, which its latest high performance NVMe SSD that is based on the PCIe 4.0 standard.
As per official notes, the South Korean tech giant has announced this new SSD for gamers in mind. It states that the fast storage device will help run graphic intensive video gamers and other taxing operations like 3D renderings, high resolution video editing, or even data analysis. Furthermore, it also offers lightening fast speeds and greater power efficiency as well. The new Samsung 990 PRO series NVMe SSD and has the fastest PCIe 4.0 speed thanks to its new V-NAND and a new custom controller.
The new SSD can read 7,450 MB/s and write 6,900 MB/s sequentially. It also offers random read and write speeds are 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS. Notably, the new 990 PRO has a 55 percent better random performance compared to the previous gen 980 PRO model, which makes its better for gaming, creativity, and other productivity based tasks. With AAA games becoming larger in size and more complex, fast NVMe SSDs have become integral in offering the best gaming experience.
Thus, the 990 PRO was also tested with Forspokem, which is Luminous Productions’ upcoming action RPG. During its tests, the map loading time was one second, compraed to the four seconds on a SATA SSD and 28 seconds on a hard drive (HDD). The new Samsung 990 PRO and 990 PRO with heatsink will be available for a price tag of 179 US Dollars for the 1TB model and 309 US Dollars for the 2TB model. The top end 4TB model will be launched sometime next year.
