OnePlus has launched a couple of Snapdragon 8-series flagships this year. In January 2021, the company unveiled the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip in China. According to a new leak by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station via TechGoing, OnePlus’ next flagship phone featuring the SM8550 chip will debut by the end of 2022.

The SM8550 chip that the tipster is talking about is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, which is expected to launch in November this year. Rumours are rife that the SD8G2 will be a 4nm chip with a 1+2+2+3 architecture design instead of 1+3+4, which was seen on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipsets.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to comprise one Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A270 cores, two Cortex-A710 cores, and three Cortex-A510 cores. The SoC is also said to include the Adreno 740 graphics and the Snapdragon X70 5G modem. According to a recent leak, the SD8G2 will offer a 10 percent overall performance improvement over the previous generation.

Coming back to the OnePlus leak, the tipster has claimed that the company will focus on things like performance and design. Since the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G at the start of this year in China, it is likely that the next flagship featuring the SD8G2 chip could be the OnePlus 11 Pro 5G. Considering that it could be a Pro model, it may come with better cameras with Hasselblad optimizations and an alert slider.

The alleged OnePlus 11 Pro 5G will not be the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to launch in the market. Rumors are rife that Xiaomi may unveil the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro with SD8G2 onboard in November.
