Finnish company Nokia has unveiled two new rugged devices in a bid to increase its catalogue of rugged devices. The products include the Nokia XR20 Industrial Edition and the Nokia Industrial 5G fieldrouter. The Nokia XR20 Industrial Edition is basically an enhanced version of the Nokia XR20 rugged smartphone that was first launched in July 2021 by Nokia’s licensee HMD Global.
The new Nokia smartphone is also manufactured by HMD Global and is equipped with several topnotch features designed to ensure that it meets the requirements of a complete rugged smartphone. The phone comes with several relevant certifications such as ATEX, IECEx, NEC500, and UL certifications.
The certifications are not just indicative of the usability of the smartphone in the outdoors or under the elements, it also shows that it can be used in locations where combustible chemicals are utilized and explosions are possible. Apart from workers on construction sites, the smartphone is suitable for use by persons working at remote oil drilling platform, chemical processing factory, dusty mine, or any other hazardous area. Workers can communicate using push-to-talk and video with apps like Nokia Team Comms or Group Communications on their XR20 devices.
On its part, Nokia’s Industrial 5G fieldrouters solve the connectivity issues associated with outdated industrial equipment and access to private wireless network. It can be deployed in complex environments like mines, ports, and factories.
There is no word yet on the pricing and availability for the Nokia XR20 5G Industrial edition is yet to be revealed. However, the device is likely to be sold in selected markets only.
