The teenager, after coming out of the ordeal, sent an email to Apple CEO, Tim Cook, that Apple Watch came to his rescue. The youngster is from the Maharashtra State and visited Lonavala, 50 miles (~80km) from Mumbai. He was out hiking on a rainy day with three of his friends. The incident happened on their way back when he slipped into a valley. He was saved by a tree and stone but suffered a fracture on his ankles. He was in a lot of pain and only had his Apple Watch with him.

Mertha was eventually rescued by his friends and others around the scene. The teenager was hospitalized and went through a rehabilitation process that sees him still using a walking stick. Apple CEO Tim Cook, in an email response, praised Mertha for sharing his story.
