Speculations are all over the internet surrounding the iPhone 15, the next iteration in Apple’s smartphone series. Latest leaks suggest that the much-anticipated periscope camera will finally make an appearance in Apple’s premium iPhone lineup, but with a catch. According to noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the periscope camera will be exclusive to only one model in the next two cycles: the iPhone 15 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Ultra.

Apple iPhone 14 Camera

This news comes as a surprise to many in the tech industry, who had previously expected the periscope camera to be included in both iPhone 16 Pro models. The periscope lens, which allows for a longer optical zoom, is a game-changer for smartphone photography. With the help of a folded lens design, the periscope camera can fit a longer zoom into a smaller space, resulting in a much higher zoom without digital cropping.

As for the supplier of the periscope lenses, Kuo predicts that Apple will turn to alternative suppliers like Largan and Genius, instead of Samsung. The choice of the iPhone 15 Ultra as the exclusive recipient of the periscope camera may impact revenue projections for the companies that provide the lenses, but the exact reason for this decision remains unknown.

It should be noted that the name “iPhone 15 Ultra” is merely a placeholder, and Apple’s naming scheme may change in the future. Past leaks have also suggested that the iPhone 15 will feature a rounded body, which will be a big change for the lineup since Apple hasn’t refreshed the iPhone’s design in quite some time. Apart from design changes, the newest iPhones will also feature a USB Type-C port – an update that has been long awaited by Apple consumers. Kuo has been providing leaks regarding Apple’s future plans for quite a while now, so the periscope camera leaks might actually be spot-on. However, consumers will have to wait for the launch of the iPhone 15 until September if Apple follows its traditional release timeline.
