Xiaomi is apparently working on surpassing the boundaries in charging technologies again. The company’s budget sub brand Redmi has announced that it is working on a new 300W fast charging tech that will break past all high standards of the market as of right now. So here are all the details.

Interestingly enough, the Chinese tech giant’s announcement for the 300W fast charging technology arrives mere four months after the first brand unveiled the first smartphone that crossed the 200W charging mark. The device in question is the Realme GT Neo 5 (Realme GT 3 in the global market), which supports an impressive 240W fast charging. Now, the Xiaomi subsidiary has revealed that it is working on a device that can charge from 0 percent to 100 percent in just under five minutes.

Redmi

The company teased this technology by using a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery smartphone that is equipped with a 4,100mAh battery pack instead of the retail model’s 4,300mAh cell. In just 2 minutes and 11 seconds, the device managed to hit 50 percent charge level, with a full charge being reached in just under 5 minutes. Looking at the video teaser shared on Weibo, we can see the device hitting 290W charging rate for about three seconds at its peak.

In other words, it is basically a 300W charger that caps out likely due to safety reasons or battery health protection. The adapter for such an impressive charger comes with double GaN technology, which the company claims has “more than 50 safety protections” despite featuring a compact form factor. But unfortunately, Redmi has yet to announce when it will unveil such a smartphone, but the teaser confirms that the technology is basically ready and we can expect it to hit the market soon.
