MG Motor has officially announced that it is planning on launching a new electric vehicle model in the Indian market. The new EV in question is the new compact MG Comet EV. So here are all the details.

For those unaware, the upcoming Comet EV is believed to be based on the Wuling’s Air EV, which is being sold in certain Asian markets like Indonesia. From its design, it is clear that the vehicle is built for urban transportation as it features a compact build. Based on what we know so far, the company’s Comet EV might offer a maximum range of 300 kilometers on a single full charge, although, finer details regarding this model has yet to be revealed officially.

The carmaker added that the new MG Comet EV has its name derived from the 1934 British aeroplane that participated in the England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race. While specifications and pricing regarding the Comet is still at large, the upcoming EV is believed to launch sometime in the middle of this year. Furthermore, it is expected to feature a price tag around 1,000,000 INR to 1,300,000 INR (roughly 12,200 US Dollars to 15,870 US Dollars).

The Comet EV features a compact boxy design with a total length of just 2.9 meters. Furthermore, the tall boy design is paired with a 2,100mm wheelbase, which its spacious on the inside. This model is rumored to be equipped with a 20 to 25kWh capacity battery pack that will be based on a skateboard platform. Its battery will likely be sourced locally and could be supplied by Tata AutoComp.
