Russian TV channel unveils AI weather girl
Svoye TV premiered its new program, ‘Future Forecast,’ on Tuesday, showcasing the capabilities of its AI weather girl, Snezhana Tumanova. The channel revealed that the program operates using neural networks, with one responsible for the virtual presenter, another for preparing the text, and a third for generating graphic content. The program is set to air five times a day, providing viewers with regular weather updates.
Snezhana Tumanova, whose name is a play on the Russian words for ‘snow’ and ‘fog,’ is an ambitious AI presenter seeking to outperform her human counterparts. Despite her potential to revolutionize weather forecasting, the management of Svoye TV has clarified that they do not plan to abandon traditional weather forecasts featuring a human presenter at this time.
The use of artificial TV presenters is not a new phenomenon. China has been a pioneer in this field, with the state-run Xinhua News Agency launching an ‘English AI Anchor’ back in 2018. Since then, multiple outlets have followed suit. Just last week, China’s leading newspaper, the People’s Daily, unveiled an AI presenter named ‘Ren Xiaorong’ that is set to broadcast the news 24 hours a day.
Svoye TV’s AI weather girl, Snezhana Tumanova, marks an exciting development in the use of artificial intelligence within the media industry. While human presenters still hold their ground, the integration of AI-driven presenters signals a shift in the way we consume news and information. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more advancements in AI and its applications within the media landscape.
