Huawei is apparently planning to expand its footprint in the automobile market by joining hands with more Chinese automobile makers to build its Aito branded electric vehicles. So here are all the details.

The move from the Chinese tech giant is clearly attempting to grow its presence in the automobile industry. According to Richard Yu, Huawei’s Smart Car CEO, the company will be partnering up with new legacy automakers to make its Aito branded EVs. This includes BAIC Motor and the Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC Group). This collaboration will be to manufacture new Aito automobile models.

The senior official revealed the company’s move during the China EV 100 forum in Beijing. Huawei has already joined hands with the Seres Group to make its Aito cars, and now, it appears the company will be producing new SUV, sedans, and other multi purpose vehicles that carry the Aito branding. Yu stated that “We’d like to fully use the automakers’ resources of production capacity”.

As of right now, Seres has a sold a total of 80,000 Aito cars, which are also powered by Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS system. Furthermore, Huawei’s Chairman Eric Xu also added at a press conference that the brand doesn’t build its own cars, but helps other automakers to build better vehicles.
