Instagram has always been a platform that strives to enhance user engagement and creativity. And now, the popular social media app has added a long-awaited feature that is sure to bring even more fun and expression to its users: the ability to respond to posts with GIFs. The announcement was made by none other than Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, during a chat with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Users can pick GIFs from Giphy, a popular GIF database

Mosseri described the new feature as a “finally feature,” acknowledging the high demand from users for this capability. With the addition of GIFs in comments, Instagram users can now go beyond words and emojis to express themselves with animated images from Giphy, a well-known GIF database.

This update comes on the heels of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority’s order for Meta (Instagram’s parent company) to sell Giphy last year. Despite that, Instagram has decided to leverage the popular GIF platform to enhance user interactions within the app.

But that’s not all. Mosseri also revealed that Instagram is testing another exciting feature called lyrics in Reels. This feature builds upon the auto-caption sticker introduced by Meta in 2021. The inclusion of a timeline at the bottom of the interface will allow users to sync the captions accurately, enhancing the overall experience of watching and creating Reels.

Perhaps this latest addition of GIFs in comments is a sign that Instagram is actively listening to its users’ feedback. As of now, Instagram users can rejoice in the newfound ability to add a touch of animated flair to their comments and look forward to even more exciting updates in the future.
