BMW is set to make waves in the summer of 2023 with the introduction of several new electric models, further cementing its commitment to sustainable mobility. Among the exciting additions to its lineup are the i4 xDrive40, two electrified variants of the seventh-generation 7 Series, and the implementation of the new BMW Operating System 8.5.

BMW’s new electric lineup starts from $61,600 and goes up to $107,000

The i4 xDrive40, an all-wheel drive variant, joins the successful i4 lineup. Powered by dual electric motors, it boasts a total output of 396 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, propelling the fully-electric sedan from 0-60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. With an 80.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, the i4 xDrive40 offers an estimated range of 307 miles (282 miles with optional 19-inch wheels) according to preliminary tests. Starting at $61,600, this model is set to hit the US market in the third quarter of 2023.

The 7 Series will also see electrified enhancements with two new models. The 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid combines a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a maximum output of 483 horsepower and an estimated electric range of over 35 miles. Priced at $107,000, this impressive sedan will be available in the fall of 2023.

In addition, the single-motor, rear-wheel drive i7 eDrive50 will join the 7 Series family, providing 449 horsepower. More details regarding the i7 eDrive50’s performance and range will be released closer to its market launch. The 740i will also get an upgrade with the introduction of xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, enhancing its acceleration and providing confident handling in various weather conditions.

Alongside these new models, BMW will introduce the BMW Operating System 8.5, which represents a significant evolution of the iDrive operating system. The new system offers a user-friendly experience with a redesigned home screen, allowing drivers to access functions and information effortlessly. Live widgets are displayed on the driver’s side of the user interface, and QuickSelect functionality enables direct access to entertainment programs, contact lists, vehicle settings, and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The rollout of BMW Operating System 8.5 will begin in July with the iX models, i4 models, and 7 Series models. Subsequently, in August, the system will be implemented in X5 and X6 models, X7 models, and XM models (excluding M models).

BMW’s summer of 2023 is set to be a game-changer, offering an expanded range of electrified models and cutting-edge technology with the BMW Operating System 8.5. The company is also looking to integrate multiplayer gaming with its cars.
