Although the cause of the camera malfunction remains unclear, a temporary workaround has been discovered that suggests an expired security certificate in Windows may be to blame.
Surface Pro X owners noticed that rolling back the system date to May 22nd restored camera functionality. However, it is important to note that altering the system date could lead to authentication issues with specific websites and services. Consequently, this is merely a stopgap solution until Microsoft addresses the underlying problem.
