Unihertz, known for manufacturing compact smartphones, has once again captured the attention of tech enthusiasts with its latest offering, the Jelly Star. Following the success of their previous models, Unihertz has returned with a device that combines a diminutive size with impressive performance upgrades. Touted as the smallest smartphone running Android 13, the Jelly Star aims to revolutionize the market for ultra-compact smartphones. the launch is coming just a few months after the Unihertz Luna having a similar design to the Nothing Phone 1 was launched.

The Jelly Star showcases significant improvements over its predecessor, the Jelly 2E. Unihertz has equipped the device with the powerful MediaTek Helio G99, an octa-core SoC built on a 6 nm process. In tests, the Jelly Star’s performance outperformed the Helio A22 found in the Jelly 2E by an impressive factor of three. The new handset also boasts 8 GB of RAM, double the capacity of its predecessor, ensuring smooth multitasking and efficient app management. With 256 GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage and a MicroSD card reader, users can now enjoy ample storage space for their apps, media, and files.

Despite its compact size, the Jelly Star doesn’t compromise on camera capabilities. It sports a remarkable 48 MP rear camera, delivering high-resolution photos and videos. On the front, there is an 8 MP camera for crisp selfies and video calls. The device also features a 3-inch LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, providing vibrant visuals and sharp text.

Unihertz has ingeniously packed all these impressive components into a remarkably small form factor. With dimensions of just 95.1 x 49.6 x 18.7 mm and weighing only 116 g, including the battery, the Jelly Star is truly pocket-friendly. Despite its compactness, the smartphone features a capacitive fingerprint scanner on the back for convenient and secure unlocking.

The Jelly Star is currently available for backing on Kickstarter, with a pledge price of HKD1,329 (~US$170). Backers can choose between vibrant blue or red color options. Unihertz aims to start shipping to backers in October 2023, with a projected retail price of approximately HK$1,675 (~US$214) once it hits the market.
