What’s new in this June 2023 security update for Galaxy S22?

This update primarily focuses on enhancing device security, addressing over 60 security vulnerabilities identified in Galaxy smartphones and tablets. However, no new features or performance improvements are mentioned in the official changelog provided by Samsung.

According to Samsung’s updated security bulletin, the June 2023 patch incorporates 53 fixes from Google for Android-related security flaws (CVEs). Among these, three are classified as critical, while 50 are considered highly important. Additionally, Samsung has addressed 11 security vulnerabilities specific to their devices.

The South Korean company has disclosed details about three of these vulnerabilities, known as Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). Information regarding the remaining vulnerabilities will be revealed once all Galaxy phones and tablets have received the June 2023 patch or subsequent security updates. The three disclosed flaws impact Galaxy devices running Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13. One vulnerability affects devices using Exynos chips, while the others are related to flaws in Knox and its CC (Common Criteria) mode.

To check for the new update on their Galaxy S22 series phones, US users can navigate to Settings > Software update and select Download and Install.

Looking ahead, Samsung plans to release the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update for the Galaxy S22 series later this year. The phones were initially launched with Android 12, followed by the Android 13 update and the One UI 5.1 update in previous months.
